    • Sens needed more balance on the defence with side and defence-minded compared to offence-minded. This trade help with that. Not super sexy but could help. Perron could help as Sens needed some more vets to help, but not having pinto signed is a big problem. I’m hoping g he accepts a bridge.

      • Yeah I think the Pinto thing is what worries me most right now.

I guess I was hoping for something splashy for the new D. Maybe this will be okay.

I like the grit signings so far but the Pinto not being thee yet…

      • Guys, as matters stand now, with the additions of Jensen, Perron and Gregor, and counting Norris, the Senators are committed to 19 and now have $4,400,000 with which to sign 4 – including Pinto.

Close to $1 mil of that will be taken up by Tyler Kleven once he’s shown as having been moved up from Belleville, so it’s down to roughly $3.5 mil to sign 3 – including Pinto.

Clearly, they will need to purge Joseph’s $2,950,000 cap hit (trade, waive, demotion – whatever) in order to have enough to get Pinto signed. I think a long-term deal just flew out the window and he’s now looking at a 2-year bridge deal at around $4 mil.

As I posted in the Rumours section, he and his agent must comprehend that they are not dealing from strength. First off, it was his violation of the league’s gambling rules that cost the Senators a full half-season of his services this past season. I’m not saying he cost them a playoff spot … but a full season following a full training camp likely would have resulted in a much bigger points contribution than his 9g 18a 27 pts.

After just 140 NHL games and 82-game averages of a pedestrian 18g 23a 41 pts, this is not the time to be playing hardball with a GM and owner who have no connection to his joining the team a few short years ago.

If he doesn’t smarten up he could well be on his way elsewhere. Yeah, with the uncertainty of Norris that could make the C position a bit dicey, but there are options:

        1. Norris – 2. Stutzle – 3. Greig and 4. The Swiss Army Knife Amadio

        1. Stutzle 2. Giroux (his natural position) . Greig 4. Amadio

(And if Pinto were to be moved, one of those above could be affected by who comes back in return

  6. Wow, I can’t remember a time when the top free agents were off the board this early in Fa.

Or a time when it was this dead on here day 1.

    • That’s probably because we already knew the destinations of some of the top UFAs before the market opened today.

  7. Lyle, can retained salary be traded from one team to another??

Say Nashville’s Ryan Johansson’s retained $4.0 mill be traded with an asset to another team???

      • Missed 3 Wings signings here

      • No, I didn’t. I listed their sole notable signing (Patrick Kane). The others were depth moves.

  8. Reilly Smith to the Rangers for a 2nd and 5th, at least that’s what I heard.

    • 1.25 retained

      • Total desperation move from a GM that really didn’t need to do much.

IMO, NY should have just stood pat. Nothing in FA made much sense. It’s not terrible, it was just unnecessary move to make today.

Hopefully they waive him to San Jose? 😜

      • Wasn’t Smith acquired with a 3rd from Vegas? Getting two picks with one being a second sounds like a decent return

      • Wasn’t Smith acquired with a 3rd from Vegas? Getting two picks with one being a second sounds like a decent return for him.

      • But that second isn’t until 2027. I guess Dubas wasn’t kidding about building for the future.

  9. Bruins should sign Skinner.

  10. With NJ netting both Dillon and Pesce and 10 mil cap space I wonder if Laine becomes a possibility ?

    Reply
    • I don’t think Laine fits what Fitz just tried to build, defensively responsible players. So that and the uncertainty I would think no.
Fitz still has a lot of cap room. Not sure what he is going to do with it, but would come in handy at TDL.

  11. Bruins … well if anything they sure got a lot bigger and tougher with their bottom 6 and #4/5 Dman ..now need a scoring winger

  12. Chevys/Jets worst single day since relocation from Atlanta. Lost Toffoli, Monahan, Dillion and Broissont. Signed 2 backup goalies and Collin Miller. Good luck selling tickets now.

  13. Bruins … looks like Sweeney had a choice between a #4-5 Dman or a 1st or 2nd line winger and he took the Dman … ..wrong choice from my view

    Reply
    • Hey Joe, I would disagree with that. I think that Zadorov will be a top 4 D, and not just that, but someone who brings some serious hittin capability and snarl that collectively the Bruins need. I would agree that a top 6 winger is a deficiency the Bruins have right now, but if you look at Sweeney’s comments, he recognizes that, I suspect he will go with what they have right now, hoping they also give at least one of the Providence boys a shot, and after a few months into the season you see what you got and what you need.

  14. Edmonton should be unstoppable in the west with Arvidsson and another Skinner added to the team. If the goalie Skinner plays like he did in the playoffs, I can’t see anyone in the west beating them come playoff time.

  15. I completely agree Ducky10, now it looks like they should have blown the team up last year by trading Helle and Scheiffle. Winnipeg will be mediocre at best for the next several years, but will stay just high enough to never win the lottery. Very ugly times ahead.

How could you not offer Duchene 5 million a year? He signed in Dallas for 3 mil, unless he was set on signing there. It’s hard to believe he didn’t get more, no matter what other teams were interested.

  18. Well Ducky and Dave I see your points. On the face of it we lost 4 solid names. I’d argue that the 3 skaters we lost were very slow and took all the speed away from the club.
3.3 for a backup goalie was not a place you go to when you have Helly playing 55+ games. He played great and earned it I’ll admit.
I’m wondering if this McGroarty issue had the team reevaluating there position on advancing younger players quicker. We’re going to see a lot of young blood in the lineup next year it seems.
Like all Jets fans I’m hoping there ready
